44 Loose wheel warning - general procedure

Customer states:

The loose wheel warning is active. It may appear in combination with other messages.

Workshop findings:

The complaint can be reproduced. Various DTCs may be logged in the vehicle.

Service

The aim of this service info is to help locate issues related to the loose wheel warning. The following points may help when processing the complaint (although it is not always necessary to perform all steps):

Update the vehicle to the latest software version (perform campaigns or other TSBs).

Check addresses 812C and 0003 for relevant DTCs for the loose wheel warning.

If DTCs related to the loose wheel warning have been logged for individual wheels or all four wheels, performing wheel balancing or swapping wheels over may help.

Check that the speed sensors and sensor rings for the affected wheel are clean and working correctly.

If there are problems with the availability of the loose wheel warning system, the issues triggered in the vehicle should be remedied according to Guided Fault Finding.

Always make sure that addresses 812C and 0003 are functioning correctly.

Check DTCs in other control units and specific further TSB available which are possible causes of issues with the loose wheel warning in terms of the chain of effects or based on a message in the instrument cluster.
