1. Check wastegate adjustment on turbocharger for accessibility/ease of movement:
•
Check wastegate adjustment on turbocharger (see illustration 1, red circle) for stiffness/secure fit:
‒
If the wastegate adjustment moves easily, this TSB does not apply and further diagnosis is needed.
‒
If the wastegate adjustment is not easily moved, continue with step 2.

2.Try to loosen wastegate adjustment:
- With turbocharger still installed on vehicle:
Generously spray wastegate adjustment with commercially available rust remover and let sit for at least 30 minutes.
•
With the ODIS tester, attempt to perform basic settings for the wastegate adjustment:
‒
If the wastegate adjustment basic settings can be performed successfully, apply grease to the clevis on the wastegate adjustment with hot screw paste (part number G 052 112 A3). No further work is necessary, clear the faults and return the vehicle to the customer.
‒
If the wastegate adjustment basic settings cannot be performed with the ODIS tester, continue with “With turbocharger removed”.
- With turbocharger removed:
•
Remove the turbocharger according to the instructions found in the repair manual.
•
Manually manipulate the wastegate assembly to attempt to free the wastegate adjustment again:
‒
If the wastegate adjustment cannot be loosened in this way, continue with step 3.
‒
If the wastegate adjustment can be released in this way, apply grease to the clevis on the wastegate adjustment with hot screw paste (part number G 052 112 A3).
•
Reinstall the turbocharger according to the instructions found in the repair manual.
•
Perform basic settings using the ODIS tester and clear the faults.
•
No further work is necessary, the vehicle can be returned to the customer.
3. Turbocharger replacement
•
If the repairs are unsuccessful, replace the turbocharger according to the repair manual.
•
Apply grease to the new clevis on the wastegate adjustment with hot screw paste (part number G 052 112 A3).
•
Perform basic settings using the ODIS tester and clear the faults.
•
No further work is necessary, the vehicle can be returned to the customer.
